MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Laurel Lake Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Inc. Is to provide fire suppression and emergency medical services to the residents of Commercial Township Fire District #3. This mission will be fulfilled through the continued dedication of our current and future members.

 


2 Alarm Dwelling in Port Elizabeth
Saturday, February 18, 2012

At approximately 1700 hours on 02/18/2012 Laurel Lake (Station 13) was dispatched along with Dividing Creek (Station 18), Port Norris (Station 11), Mauricetown (Station 12) and Heislerville (Station 25) , Millville (Station 30) and Millville Rescue (Squad 98) to 195 Port Elizabeth - Cumberland Road for a dwelling.

Intial departments dispatched included Port Elizabeth (Station 27), Cumberland (Station 23) and Leesburg (Station 26).

Engine 2601 established a fill site at Route 47 and Broadway. Cumberland County Fire Police were requested for traffic control at the fill site.

Units operating on scene included Station 27, 2611, 2601, 2311, 2301, 2321, 2512, 2511, 2521, 1202, 1221, 1311, 1811, 1103, Tower 11, 3001, 3017, Squad 98, Cumberland County Fire Police (Station 87) and the Salvation Army.

ATV crash with fly out

At approximately 1238 hours on 11/20/2011, a passer by stopped at the station to report an MVC at Lakeshore Drive and Sandalwood Road. A crew responded 1327 and advise the 911 Center that they were responding. The 911 Center advised the responding BLS unit that we were being dispatched.

Laurel Lake (Station 13/Squad 13), Mauricetown Rescue 1221 (Station 12) were dispatched. Upon arrival of 1327, they requested an ALS unit and a helicopter to fly. Life Support 7 was dispatched along with Air 2. Air 2 reported a 4 minute ETA once airborne. ALS apparently recalled themselves due to the 4 minute ETA of Air 2.

Engine 1303 and Rescue 1221 assisted at the crash site. After clearing the crash site, Engine 1303 assisted Mauricetown Engine 1201 at the LZ. The patient was transported by Air 2 to the trauma center with apparent chest injuries and a compound fracture of the right wrist.

Traffic was detoured from Buckshutem Road by the department's fire police while Air 2 was on the ground.

Units on scene were Engine 1303, Brush 1307, Engine 1201, Rescue 1221, Car 13, BLS 1327 and BLS 1328.

Cover Assignment in Millville City
Monday, October 31, 2011

Halloween morning Engine 1303 was dispatched to Millville Fire Department (Station 30) for a cover assignment while Millville was operating at a 2 alarm dwelling at 724 Wheaton Avenue.

Engine 1303 responded with a crew of four under the direction of Captain Rob Curry. Enroute to the city, Engine 1303 was diverted to 2213 South Second Street for a CO Detector activation. Crews arrived and determined that the co detector was in need of a new battery.

Later during the cover assignment, Engine 1303 responded to Oak St. and 2nd St. for an MVC. Rescue 3021 briefly left the fire scene to assist with the MVC.

Other units operating at the fire scene in addition to Millville's units were Vineland Fire Department (Engine 22), with a crew of six for the FAST Assignment, Millville Rescue Squad (Squad 98), Millville Police Department and the Cumberland County Fire Police (Station 87) and the Salvation Army Canteen Unit.

Special Call for Brush 1307 to Dividing Creek Structure Fire

On 10/24/11, Dividing Creek Fire Company (Station 18), Port Norris Fire and Rescue (Station 11), Mauricetown Fire Company (Station 12), Downe Township Fire and Rescue (Station 39) and Downe Township EMS (Squad 36) were dispatched to 689 Main Street in Dividing Creek for a structure fire. A member of the Cumberland County Fire Police reported a barn with heavy fire showing.

Initial units dispatched were Station 18, Tower Ladder 11, Tender 1202, Tender 3911 and BLS 3626. In addition to initial units, Engine 1103, 1150, Engine 1201,Rescue 1221 and Rescue 1222 had also responded. A special call for 1821 was made for Station 18 and at 2115 hours, Laurel Lake (Station 13) was special called for Brush 1307. Cumberland County FM 1 was also requested to the scene.

Incident command placed the situation under control around the 50 minute mark at 2143 hours.

Henry Street Dwelling

On 09/28/2011, Laurel Lake (Station 13) (Squad 13), Mauricetown (Tender 1202) and Port Norris (Engine 1103) were dispatched at 0637 hours for a dwelling at 7992 Henry Street in Laurel Lake.

The Cumberland County 911 Center  reported to responding units the residence was filling with smoke with alarms sounding. The 911 Center received a call from the resident and stated that the caller left a pot on the stove and had forgetten about it.

Chief John Reeves (1331) arrived and established Henry Street Command at 0649 hours. After a brief investigation, 1331 recalled all units with the exception of Engine 1301.

Units responding were Engine 1301, Tender 1202, Engine 1201 and BLS 1328.

Henry Street Command was terminated at 0657 hours.


 
Cover Assignment to Millville City during a 2 alarm church fire

On August 2, 2011, Engine 1303 and Engine 22 (Vineland) were dispatched to Millville City. Engine 1303 was assigned to a cover assignment at Station 30 and Engine 22 reported to the scene for a FAST Assignment.

Arriving Millville Engine 3001 arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke showing and requested the second alarm.

Engine 22 arrived and sent it's crew in for the FAST Assignment, than later took up the hydrant in front of the church to supply Engine 3001.

Command placed the situation under control at 2144 hours and reported overhaul in progress.

Engine 1303 was released from the cover assignment around 0030 hours and command was terminated at 0145 hours.

Units operating on scene included 2 engines, 1 laddder and 1 rescue from Millville Fire. 1 BLS unit from Millville Rescue. Millville PD, Cumberland County Fire Police, Salvation Army and American Red Cross.

Mutual Aid to Millville City for vessel assist

At 1725 hours, Station 13 was dispatched to Millville City for a vessel assist at the Union Lake boat ramp. In addition to Engine 1303 responding, units from Downe Township Fire and Rescue Company #1 (Station 39) and Millville Rescue Squad (Squad 98) were dispatched as well. BLS Unit 9812 reported a possible kayak in distress on the lake as reported by an incoming boater.

This incident took place during a thunderstorm that blew through the Millville area. Several incidents were handled by Millville Fire Department (Station 30) that required mutual aid from Gouldtown Fire Company (Station 15). Other incidents, included two dwellings, multiple alarm systems, an MVC and a elevator rescue.

Station 30 off duty paid firefighters were recalled to man the station in the event of any other incidents occurring during the storm.

After clearing the Union Lake vessel assist, Engine 1303 responded to Station 30 for the cover assignment.


 
Mutual Aid to Millville City

At 1552 hours, Laurel Lake (Station 13) was dispatched to Millville City for a cover assignment. Enroute, Engine 1303 was diverted to the scene for manpower. Cumberland (Station 23) was than dispatched for the cover assignment.

Engine 30 was advised that there was heavy fire and smoke showing while enroute. Engine 30 arrived and laid a 4" supply line from a hydrant into the scene. Initial crews may have had difficulty gaining access to the involved buildings as they were located in a heavily wooded area.

In addition to Engine 1303 for manpower, Engine 22 (Vineland) was on scene for the FAST assignment. Millville units on scene were, Engine 30, Ladder 35, Engine 36 and Rescue 34. Several New Jersey Forest Fire units were on scene as well. Two BLS units from Squad 98 and one ALS unit from Underwood Memorial Hospital Paramedics were on scene, as well as the Salvation Army.

Millville P.D. assisted with traffic control by closing Rieck Avenue.

Command placed the scene under control at about the 1 hour and 40 minute mark and command was terminated at 1958 hours.


 
   
   
Extrication Drill June 25, 2011

Two seperate extrication drills were held on June 25, 2011. The first drill was a challenge to the department members. A Dodge Neon was placed on its side on the shoulder of the road in a wooded area. The roof of the car was wedged against a rather large tree. Members stabilized the vehicle with chains to the tree and applied a foam blanket during the extrication. The second drill was a Ford Explorer in about a four foot deep ditch in the woods. Crews performed stabilization of the vehicle and proceeded to do a dash roll.


 
   
   
Accepting bids for building addition to firehouse

To all interested contractors, the Laurel Lake Fire and Rescue Company is accepting bids  for an addition to the existing building located at 5436 Battle Lane in Laurel Lake, NJ.

The building addition is a 40' x 60' pole barn with a 10' x 30' hip roof extension on the back. Any interested contractors may submit their bids to the:
